GI_Forum 2007: Geospatial crossroads

The first GI_Forum took place from July 3-6, 2007. Participants from over 20 different countries turned the symposium into a vibrant, scientific, intercultural event. Roughly 40 contributions were presented as oral or poster presentations at the GI_Forum. The programme was significantly enriched by three keynote speakers, distinguished researchers in the area of GIScience: David Mark (State University of New York at Buffalo); Francis Harvey (University of Leicester and University of Minnesota) and Stewart Fotheringham (National Centre for Geocomputation Ireland). Their speeches addressed issues that reach from spatial cognition to Geocomputation pointing out relevant research issues and trends in the field of GIScience.

The GI_Forum was co-located with the highly regarded German language conference on Applied Geoinformatics (AGIT) sharing the innovative AGIT EXPO exhibit, great social events, as well as the scientific part of the programme. This year, this event consisting of 4 parallel symposia, was attended by 1100 visitors and up to 60 exhibitors, turning it into the largest GIScience event in central Europe.
